3/28/2023 - Mullett Arena hosted a truly fantastic Isobel Cup championship game. Yesterday evening, championship hockey came to the desert. At Mullett Arena, after the Arizona Coyotes fell to the Colorado Avalanche in the shootout, the Toronto Six faced off against the Minnesota Whitecaps for the Isobel Cup, the top prize of the Premier Hockey Federation.
Before the event, fans had the chance to see a star-studded panel hosted by Erica Ayala. Lyndsey Fry (Silver Medal Olympian and Coyotes’ broadcaster), Natasha Adair (Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Arizona State University), Madison Packer (captain of the Metropolitan Riveters), and Kacey Bellamy (Isobel Cup and Clarkson Cup winner) spoke in front of a gathered crowd about topics ranging from preparing for a competition that is four years away to what it means to be involved with programs that they never had growing up as athletes. The Arizona Coyotes are one of the most penalized teams in the NHL. A surprising number of things have gone right for the Arizona Coyotes this season. Clayton Keller is having a monster season, rookies like Matias Maccelli and Juuso Välimäki are stepping up quicker than expected, and they have been playing phenomenally well at home. But, unfortunately, the Coyotes still have problems, and one consistent issue has been their penchant for taking penalties.
The Coyotes are the sixth most penalized team in the NHL, with 800 penalty minutes taken over 73 games. For reference, the Montréal Canadiens are the most penalized team, with 856 penalties over 72 games.
But the Coyotes are number one in other areas related to penalties. They are the worst team at net penalties (penalties drawn versus penalties taken) with a -69, which is not nice, and they have taken the most bench minors with 17.
Also, according to More Hockey Stats, they have Collapse

The Arizona Coyotes look to get their first win of their three-game road trip. Game Preview
The Arizona Coyotes’ point streak came to an end with a 2-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets last night. The Coyotes kept things close, but the Mullett Magic did not follow them on the road.
Winnipeg struck first with an early goal from Nikolaj Ehlers, giving the Jets a 1-0 lead just over four minutes into the game. The Coyotes had a chance to tie things up on the power not long after, but Adam Lowry scored short-handed to give the Jets an early 2-0 lead.
The Coyotes’ lone goal came midway through the second period, with Barrett Hayton getting his 15th goal of the season. Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz assisted on the goal, showing the top line’s continued effectiveness.
Unfortunately, after getting within one, the Coyotes proceeded to take the next four penalties, including a four-minute double minor for high-sticking. The Jets had six power play Collapse

The Arizona Coyotes will play the Edmonton Oilers for the final time this season. Game Preview
The Arizona Coyotes will play the Edmonton Oilers for the second time in two weeks, and for the second time, it will be the second game of a back-to-back. But it will be at the Mullett Arena this time, where the Coyotes have played better this season.
After falling 3-1 to the Colorado Avalanche last Friday, the Coyotes returned home to host the Avalanche yesterday. They kept the game much tighter but still lost 4-3 to the Avalanche in the shootout.
The Coyotes needed to come back twice, which isn’t surprising when facing one of the top teams. They were down 2-0 going into the final frame, only to tie things up midway through the period with goals from Matias Maccelli and Christian Fischer. Then, when the Avalanche regained the lead on the power play, Clayton Keller scored his 36th goal and 80th point to tie things up and force overtime.

Per the NHL, Mr. Barroway is currently suspended and forbidden to contact the team. Yesterday, just before the Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche were set to face off in Colorado, an alarming story was released. The Aspen Daily News reported that Andrew Barroway, who currently owns 5% of the Coyotes, had been arrested on felony and misdemeanor assault charges related to an incident involving his wife at a Colorado hotel.
Per the report from Aspen Daily News, the affidavit stated that Barroway’s wife’s injuries include “a large bruise on her left thigh, a cut on her right thumb, bruises on both knees and both ankles, a red left cheek and two dried blood spots on her throat.” Reports also indicate that Andrew Barroway strangled his wife with one hand to the point where she “saw stars.”
The judge overseeing the case, 9th Judicial District Chief Judge John Neily, issued a mandatory protection order prohibiting Barroway from having Collapse

3/30/2023 - Hello Everyone,
It feels like it's been forever since it was announced that Vox would no longer be supporting Five For Howling and other hockey sites on SBNation, even if it has only been a few months. In that time, we have continued to provide game day previews and started posting more articles on the weekend, all while preparing for the move.
And that move is happening. This will be the last post on the Five For Howling that was, with future posts being on the new site through Ghost, which can be found here. If you go there tomorrow morning, you will see the game preview for the Coyotes' game against the Dallas Stars and all future contact.
We are thankfully able to keep the domain, so in the coming days/weeks/however long the process takes, you will be able to go to FiveForHowling.com, and it will automatically redirect you, but until then, check out our Ghost page.
Go Yotes,

The Avalanche and Coyotes meet again, this time in Arizona. Game Preview
The Arizona Coyotes will match up against the Colorado Avalanche for the second time in a row. The two teams met last Friday in Denver, where the Avalanche beat the Coyotes 3-1, and they meet today in a matinee matchup.
Arizona started their last game strong and played a solid first half. The Avalanche had the first goal, but the Coyotes tied things up late in the period, with Clayton Keller getting his 35th goal of the season.
Unfortunately, things started to slow down midway through the second period. At one point, the Coyotes were outshooting the Avalanche but couldn’t capitalize. Then, by the end of the middle frame, the Avalanche were outshooting the Desert Dogs 21-14.
Special teams proved to be the deciding factor in the last match between these two teams. The Avalanche scored two power play goals, starting the scoring with a Nathan MacKinnon goal Collapse

The Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche will play each other twice over the next three days. Game Preview
The Arizona Coyotes may not have the Mullett Magic on the road, but that doesn’t mean you can go easy on them. The Coyotes showed they wouldn’t go down without a fight on Wednesday when they took the Edmonton Oilers to overtime, even if it wasn’t enough to win.
Special teams played a significant part in the Yotes’ last game, with three of the six regulation goals scored on the power play. J.J. Moser tallied the Coyotes’ lone power play goal, while both Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins lit the lamp for the Oilers.
The Oilers had two power play goals compared to the Coyotes’ one, and it shouldn’t surprise you that they had twice as many penalties too. Penalties have been an issue for the Coyotes all season, and it tends to bite them.
Wednesday may have been a loss, but it was another excellent night for the Desert Dogs’ Collapse
